[外電] Miami Looking at Center Options

There is a reason Mark Blount has started 127 of 151 appearances over the
past two seasons: NBA centers are in desperately short supply.
It's the reason a DeSagana Diop can get the full mid-level exception, and why
Kwame Brown still will land a contract of significant heft.
So what are the options for the Heat, other than adding to Blount's
starts-to-appearances ratio?
The unrestricted free-agent market is down to the likes of Chris Andersen,
Primoz Brezec, Kwame Brown, Michael Doleac, Francisco Elson, Othella
Harrington, David Harrison, Jamaal Magloire, D.J. Mbenga, Scot Pollard, Theo
Ratliff, Brian Skinner, Kurt Thomas and Lorenzen Wright. (Dikembe Mutombo has
basically said it’s a return to the Rockets or retirement.)
That's not counting the restricted likes of Andris Biedrins, Nenad Krstic and
Emeka Okafor, who would require creative sign-and-trade accounting that
seemingly is beyond the Heat's reach.
Failing that, there's the trade market, with few teams having an abundance in
the middle, unless you fancy the likes of New York's Jerome James, Indiana's
Rasho Nesterovic, Milwaukee's Dan Gadzuric, New Jersey's Josh Boone,
Washington's Etan Thomas, New Orleans' Melvin Ely, Utah's Jarron Collins,
Sacramento's Shelden Williams, or Minnesota's Calvin Booth or Jason Collins.
Even tossing Shawn Marion into the equation, there simply are not many
centers to be had. Again, to reiterate, Mark Blount has started 85 percent of
the games he has appeared in the last two seasons.
