Miami Heat tries to avoid wasting Dwyane Wade's high-scoring games In the aftermath, it was dismissed as a statistical aberration. An anomaly. Heat guard Dwyane Wade had his long-range jumper falling. He was able to get to the basket at will. Ultimately, Wade made scoring 50 points look relatively routine. Usually, when Wade goes off on scoring binges like that, the Heat wins. But that was far from the case in Sunday's disturbing loss to the Magic. The most productive outing of Wade's career resulted in a 23-point setback. The lopsided loss taught Wade two things. One, he's capable of scoring 50 every game if he wants. And two, taking a Kobe Bryant approach to offense doesn't necessarily work in Miami. The Heat (29-26) looks to regroup from one of its worst losses of the season on Tuesday, when the struggling Detroit Pistons (27-27) visit AmericanAirlines Arena. Wade will need more assistance from his supporting cast if Miami is to emerge from a slide in which it has lost seven of its past 11 games. As a result, Wade said he must quickly forget one of his more memorable milestones. SUPPORTING CAST WANTED ''No one player alone can carry anything,'' said Wade, who shot 17 of 30 from the field and 14 of 15 from the free-throw line. ``I've never, ever thought that. If anybody thinks that, they're crazy. We have to forget it, learn from it and get prepared for Detroit. It takes a team to win, especially to win big.'' Until Sunday's 122-99 loss to the Magic, the Heat had been able to supplement Wade's individual offensive brilliance with balance -- a formula that often has led to wins. The Heat is 7-3 in Wade's 10 highest-scoring games this season. But with rookie Michael Beasley adding 14 points off the bench Sunday, it marked the first game this season that the Heat had fewer than three players score in double figures. Heat coach Erik Spoelstra has taken the stance all season that offensive woes are correctable when there's an increased focus on defense. So at a time when he faced questions about how the Heat could lose when Wade scores 50, Spoelstra points to statistics such as, Miami was outrebounded by a combined 50 in recent losses to Orlando and Minnesota. There's also the free reign -- and countless uncontested open looks --opponents have enjoyed from three-point range that have been a problem all season. Six of the Heat's past 11 opponents have shot better than 43 percent from deep, with Orlando (53.1 percent), Minnesota (63.6) and Detroit (57.1) nearly registering off the charts. ''We're having a tough time, other than Dwyane making some miraculous one-on- one attempts,'' Spoelstra said. ``But it's more things than that. We can't come into a game and pace, see what the tempo is going to be and then try to play our way into it. We have to come into it on edge, right from the get-go.'' DEVIATING FROM THE SCRIPT Wade prefers to defer the bulk of his scoring attack until late in games. But playing a set-up role early has been difficult process of late with several of Miami's other offensive options sputtering. Daequan Cook is only 2 of 9 from beyond the arc in three games since he won the three-point shootout during All-Star weekend. Jermaine O'Neal's play has been sporadic as he has tried to find his way since acquired from Toronto. Beasley has shot only 40 percent from the field his past three games. ''We make it hard on ourselves at times,'' said Wade, the only NBA player this season to score 50 or more points in a loss. But the goal remains to ease the burden on Wade with a balanced attack. ''We have to go back and look at what we're doing wrong,'' forward Udonis Haslem said. ``One thing about this team is we come back and respond well. It's a team effort. Dwyane is a great player, but he can't do it by himself.
