Dear LeBron Raymone James, I'm breaking up with you. I'm dethroning you as my favorite basketball player. As a former die-hard fan of Charles Barkley, Reggie Miller and Allen Iverson, its uncharacteristic of me to fall in love with you. I mean, they are all undersized heros, who battled taller, bigger opponents like Rocky Balboa fighted Drago. You, Mr. James, might be the most physically-gifted athlete ever to play the game of basketball. That's why I didn't have special feelings for you when you first came to the league as a prized prospect. Then here comes May 31, 2007. I opened the TV, expecting the see Pistons celebration of game 5 victory, only to be surprised by the fact that the game is still in progress. What happened in the next 10 minutes (double overtime) not only put you among the shelves of playoff heroics, but also a place in my heart. I've been rooting frantically for you ever since. I moved my schedules, postponed appointment in order to watch your every games. In 2006, I even flied to Japan FIBA games, bought front-row tickets to watch you in person. I defended you all the times, from your lack of supporting roles in Cleveland, your controversial Twitter contents, your elbow injury leading to subpar performance in Game 5 vs Celtics. However, How did you explain this Final series? How did you explain being so passive on offense in Game3 & 4 despite your between-game vows? Barkley would never do that. He will pump inside, attack the rim relentlessly no matter guarded by Karl Malone or a beloved old lady. How did you explain your reluctance, or fear, to shoot in cruntch time? Passing to Juwan Howard? Not even once? AI would never do that. Iverson will keep shooting until it falls, disregarding Chris Webber or Carmelo demanding the ball. Because he is the franchise player. How did you explain fading to the background, staying in the corner watching as if its still in timeout, with a confused, disheartened and even disoriented look on your face? MJ would never do that. You see the fire in Jordan's eye when the game is on the line? Looks like he would commit multiple murders ---not one murder, multiple murders — just to win. And you seemed to be afraid of trespassing Mavs paint for fear of stepping on flowers or ants. That's it. It ends tonight. You will no longer appear on my desktop screens or cellphone wallpapers. I won't let your loss get into my head, affect my daily work and ruin my day anymore. Don't get me wrong. I'm not parting ways with basketball. I will still watch NBA and your games, but as a third-party perspective. You know what? I don't have to hate Celtics now. I don't have to blame reporters for ruining your chance of MVP 3-peat. Instead, I can take a seat back and enjoying the amazing degree of intensity KG is playing at the age of 35. I can truly admire the hard-working serious-minded young man named Rose. I will congratulate you when you really win it all, but if not, I will also welcome you to the shrine of no-ring MVPs with open arms. Charles and AI would enjoy your company for sure. Last but not least, thanks for the memories. Thanks for your buzzer-beating 3 vs. Magic with 1 sec left, that sent me into frenzy and immediately ordered a WITNESS T-shirt on Nike store. Thanks for the 50-point-triple-double vs. Knicks. (btw, cancelled later) Thanks for scoring 16 points in 2 minutes against Bucks in a 55-point effort. Thanks for your fadeaway jumper against Warriors. Thanks for dunking from free-throw line IN A REAL GAME. Thanks for the no-look passes. Thanks for chase-down blocks. Thanks for everything. Best regards, Maeno -- No hard feelings, no words of anger, certainly not jumping off the wagon. Just a 30-something basketball junkie who found himself too old to be addicted. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 122.100.105.244
