Just in my couple of days over here I have noticed many differences of the game of baseball. 台灣跟美國棒球存在著不少的文化差異. 就我待在這裡的幾天裡, 我觀察到了不少棒球比賽 中的不同文化之處. There is no national anthem played prior to the games. 在台灣, 比賽前不放國歌. Taiwans Gatorade type drink in the dugout is called “Pro-Sweat”, has a gross name but its pretty good. 台灣這邊休息室中放的類似開特力飲料, 名字叫" Pro-Sweat"(寶健), 這名子聽起來很噁心 但是還蠻好喝的. There have been some variations of sunflowers seeds going around which have a sweet taste, but remember don’t spit them on the field. Only on the ground in the dugout or in a cup. 休息室裡還有一種不太像葵花子的瓜子, 甜甜的(甘草瓜子?),　但是要記得不要吐到球場上 .只能把殼吐在休息區中或杯子裡. When the umpires come onto the field they bow to the fans and towards the field 裁判上場的時候, 會面向球迷跟球場鞠躬. When a pitching change is made, the pitching coach will stay on the field and watch the new pitcher warm up. 決定要換投的時候, 投教會留在場上並看著新上場的投手暖身. Also the pitcher leaving the game usually takes the ball with them, rather than hand it off to the manager. 被換下去的投手,　通常會把手上的球一起帶走, 而不是把球交給教練. If you think the battle of the bands between FAMU and Southern was good, you should check out our games. On top of each dugout are drums and trumpet players. Non stop for 9 innings this instruments are thumping and blaring while an M.C. is shouting out cheers for the crowd. Each batter has his own anthem. I find myself whistling these tunes hours after the game is over. They are going to be etched in my brain. 假如你認為 FAMU大學跟南方大學的樂團比賽很讚的話, 那麼你該來看看我們的比賽.在球員 休息區上方, 是鼓手跟喇叭手站的地方. 鼓跟喇叭9局不停歇地砰砰發聲, 伴隨著Ｍ.C.大吼 向群眾加油. 每一個打者有自己的出場歌曲. 我發現我自己也跟著哼了這些旋律直到比賽結 束. 這些旋律都快印在我腦袋裡了. Respect is a huge part of Asian culture. Batters when entering the batters box give a hand signal to the pitcher to ask for a moment to set up and feel comfortable in the box. They also signal the umpire for the same respect out of courtesy. 尊重是亞洲文化的很大一部分.　打者進入打擊區時, 向投手用手致意請求給他一點時間準 備, 讓他能自在的打擊.　打者也會向裁判致意以表示尊重. The players over here love their apparel. They have tons of wrist bands, necklaces, and wear enough protective gear on their elbows and shins to be confused with a catcher while up to bat. 台灣的選手喜歡戴裝備. 他們有一堆腕帶, 項鍊, 在肘跟脛骨的地方戴上保護性的護具, 當 他們準備上場打擊的時候, 我還以為他們是補手. After finishing a game both teams go to their foul line and bow to the crowd and then bow to the opposing team. 比賽結束後, 兩隊都會走到界外線邊, 向觀眾及對手敬禮. Following the game we meet in the locker room and go over the game. During these meetings we all have to stand up and listen to the coaches. 賽後球員跟教練們會在置物室開會, 概略的提這場比賽內容.在這些會議時間, 我們都得要 站著聽教練說話. Because of the gamble issue that happened within the league a couple years ago (http://jockpost.com/taiwan-baseball-scandal-1919-black-sox-boy-scouts), no cell phones or computers are allowed to be used in the locker room once you arrive. We also are not allowed to play cards, go to casinos, or play the lottery. 因為幾年前CPBL發生過職棒簽賭案, 只要人一到了置物間, 就不能夠使用手機, 電腦.我們 也不被允許玩牌, 去賭場, 或簽樂透. CPBL officials stand around the locker room to make sure no gambling or anything illegal takes place. CPBL官方人員會站在置物間四周, 以確保沒有任何跟簽賭有關或任何不法情事發生. Also once you are in uniform and at the field, you can not leave the dugout/locker room. If you leave to goto the office or anywhere in the stadium, you can not return to the game. 還有, 當你穿上球衣進入場內, 你就不能離開球員休息區或置物間. 假如你走出去到外面辦 公室或球場內其他地方, 你就不能在比賽中上場了. Today I noticed how strong the Asian work ethic is. I had always heard about the amount of time they put into practices and I can vouch that it is true. They are very precise with the way they go about their work. We were unable to take BP today, and while I was running I noticed a coach hitting our infielders ground balls along the warning track to make sure they got their work in. I never have seen that in the states. They just pay attention to detail and strive to do very well. I commend them for that and hope I can learn some of their ways. 今天我注意到了亞洲工作倫理有多麼強了. 我以前總聽到亞洲人花了很多時間在不停練習, 現在我能保證這絕對是真的.他們很精確的在做自己份內的工作. 我們球隊今天沒有辦法做 BP(打擊練習),當我在慢跑時, 我注意到警戒牆邊有個教練正把球沿著邊打給內野手接,以確 保內野手都能練習到. 我在美國從沒見過這景象. 他們認真專注在細節上並且努力的把事情 做的非常好.我相當讚賞他們的態度並且希望我能從中學到一些他們的精神. Tonight we lost to the Elephants 9-5. We play them tomorrow, and then have a three game series agains the Lions. I’m scheduled to pitch on Sunday. 今天我們輸給象隊 9-5. 明天要跟他們再打一場, 然後接著跟獅隊的三連戰.　 我預定要投禮拜天那場比賽. Thanks for all the comments from the last blog.
