The man selected Waukenn McCoy to represent him, the attorney that represented Sofia Jamora - Hayes's ex girlfriend - in her domestic violence case against Hayes. The NBA suspended Hayes one game for the mascot incident, but, did not discipline him for the domestic violence incident. In July of 2021, Los Angeles police were called to the home of Hayes after the cousin of Jamora called 911 during a domestic dispute. That incident ended wi th Hayes getting in a scuffle with officers & police using a taser on Hayes to subdue & arrest him. Hayes was charged with 12 misdemeanors in Los Angeles Co unty, and he was ultimately sentenced to three years probation, had to do comm unity service & attend domestic violence classes. The NBA chose not to suspend, fine or take any disciplinary action against Hay es in the wake of the incident. Jamora, claimed that wasn't the only time he a bused her. Regarding the mascot-shove suspension, Waukenn McCoy said he was stunned by th e league's swift action in this situation. They gave him a one-game suspension, that's ridiculous," McCoy said. "It's a p ublic embarrassment to them because it's their brand....
