“James is coming home this weekend and we’re going to sit down and just
look at the pros and cons and weigh his options right now,” the elder McAdoo
said in a phone interview. “I know a lot of these mock drafts have him at
No. 6 and No. 7 and in the top-10.
“Right now, our intentions and his intention is to be at Carolina next year.
”
McAdoo said he was “not sure” if his son would meet with UNC head coach Roy
Williams to acquire information from NBA personnel.
“All kids – their goal is to play at the next level and that’s James’s
goal,” McAdoo said. “One day he would like to play at the next level, so we
just want to sit down and talk about what his options are right now.”
McAdoo averaged 6.1 points and 3.9 rebounds in 15.6 minutes per game, but
emerged late in the season. The 6-foot-9, 220-pound forward started three
games after John Henson suffered a left wrist injury in the ACC Tournament
quarterfinals against Maryland.
McAdoo scored 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting against the Terrapins and posted a
career-high 17 points three games later against Vermont in the NCAA
Tournament. The Norfolk, Va. native was North Carolina’s leading scorer with
15 points in its season-ending loss to Kansas in the Elite Eight.
“I think the end of the season went extremely well for James,” McAdoo said.
“I didn’t want John [Henson] to get hurt, but it gave James an opportunity
to get more playing time and get more confidence with his playing ability. At
the end of the year, he played well. He can play a lot better than that, but
his mom and I cannot be dissatisfied with the way he played at the end of the
year.”
McAdoo has until Apr. 10 to make his decision.
