Haarhuis' retirement gives Canada their first point
An abrupt ending to the third rubber ensured that the match will
remain live going into the final day of the tie. The Canadian
pairing of Daniel Nestor and Frederic Niemeyer had won their first
set, following a titanic tiebreak which they won 12-10, and were 1-0
up when when Paul Haarhuis, playing alongside Martin Verkerk for
the Netherlands, suffered an injury to his shoulder and was forced
to retire, handing the Canadians their first point of the tie.
