Henin-Hardenne to rest for 2 weeks

BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) -- Justine Henin-Hardenne will rest for two weeks because of a virus infection, but she is optimistic she will be cleared to prepare for her French Open title defense next month.
The top-ranked Belgian has been feeling fatigued and dizzy. She said Saturday she will undergo further blood tests after initial tests showed she has a virus similar to energy-sapping glandular fever.
When Henin-Hardenne withdrew from defending her title at this week's Family Circle Cup at Charleston, S.C., the WTA Tour said she had hypoglycemia, a low blood sugar count.
``In two weeks, I will know a lot more about the virus,'' Henin-Hardenne said in a statement.
Henin-Hardenne was supposed to start her clay-court season at next month's German Open. But if her latest blood tests continue to show problems, she will have to scrap the tournament. The French Open starts May 24.
``Despite the rest I'm taking now for the next two weeks, I'm reassured about my health,'' she said in a statement.
Henin-Hardenne had been feeling weak for two weeks before pulling out of the Family Circle Cup and returning to Belgium.
The first results pointed toward mononucleosis, which could have ended her summer program. The virus diagnosed Friday would not have such a drastic impact. Henin-Hardenne thinks she became ill because she resumed intensive training too soon after bronchitis in February.
This season she has won the Australian Open and three other tournaments. Countrywoman Kim Clijsters is ranked second and Amelie Mauresmo of France is a distant third. Since Clijsters is also injured, Henin-Hardenne could remain No. 1 despite her health problems.
