Last Updated: Wednesday, 5 May, 2004, 19:35 GMT 20:35 UK Clijsters' security fears Tennis star Kim Clijsters has admitted security fears contributed to her decision to pull out of the Olympics. She originally blamed her withdrawal on wanting to stay loyal to her clothing sponsor Fila rather than wear the Belgian team uniform, made by Adidas. "The clothing deal was one thing but security was a thing for me as well," said the world number two after hearing of the recent bomb blasts in Athens. Venus Williams also admitted she is now concerned about the situation. Williams said: "I don't really watch TV and I don't read the papers as much as I should. I live in this world where there's tennis only. But it's definitely got the cogs turning in my head. "I think the Olympics is such a great, great event and it's so sad that people have to mar it with selfish issues. "I'm hoping that it'll all go well and there'll be tight security. I'll hope for the best and keep saying my prayers. For everyone, not just for my safety. The world's gone crazy." But Greek number one Eleni Daniilidou says she is looking forward to the Games and considers that appearing in her home country will be one of the highlights of her career. "It's a pity that it's happened, but I'm really positive because I was there last week and the security is very high around the embassies and the centre. They've put cameras everywhere," she said. "I'm sure we'll take care even more now because of what has happened and that it will be safe for the two weeks of the Games. "Everywhere around the world is dangerous now." -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 203.219.101.22
