Clijsters says she will miss French Open due to wrist injury

BRUSSELS, Belgium (Ticker) - Second-ranked Kim Clijsters on Friday withdrew from the French Open due to a left wrist injury, according to the French language section of her official website.
On Thursday, Clijsters pulled out of her third-round match at the Ladies German Open, citing left wrist tendinitis. She also withdrew from next week's Italia Masters in Rome.
Clijsters missed seven weeks of action due to tendinitis and a bone bruise on the same wrist after suffering the injury in March at the Pacific Life Open. She was evaluated by doctors and advised to rest.
In her personal journal on the website, Clijsters said she was told the injury was similar to the one suffered by Marat Safin, which kept the Russian off the court for most of last season.
The 21-year-old Belgian was the 2001 and 2003 runner-up at the French Open, which begins May 24. She was a finalist at three of the last four Grand Slams, losing each time to compatriot Justine Henin-Hardenne.
