Clijsters visited a doctor Friday to re-evaluate her recovery from surgery last month to remove a cyst from her left wrist. However the No. 2-ranked player will not be ready to play at the U.S. Open, according to a statement released on her web site, www.kimclijsters.be. "Kim's recovery from a tough wrist injury is progressing well," the statement said. "The muscle mass around the joint is still not what it used to be and that could be dangerous for a new injury. Therefore Kim decided to cancel for the U.S. Open." "The risks of re-injury are too great. Her left wrist is still healing." "The muscle on her left wrist is still inferior to that on her right wrist which is why it needs to be built up in the next few weeks." Clijsters has been wearing a plaster cast up to her elbow since surgery June 13, and will have to keep it on for another few weeks. Her injury forced her to miss the French Open and Wimbledon.
