The energy-sapping illness may force the former world number one to pull out of next week's $650,000 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Filderstadt. "I still do not know whether or not I will be able to play in Filderstadt," Bel gian Henin-Hardenne said on Wednesday. "We'll just have to see how it goes over the next few days." After winning Olympic gold in Athens last month, Henin-Hardenne suffered a four th-round defeat at the U.S. Open as champion. The 22-year-old said she had felt ill in the run-up to the New York grand slam event and has been suffering fatigue since. "On some days I feel okay... on others, less so. I am still very much up-and-do wn, but that's normal for a virus," she said on her website. The Belgian's heroics at the Athens Olympics had led to hopes that she was over the illness once and for all. VIRAL INFECTION Since winning the Australian Open at the start of the year she has struggled wi th the virus. Before the August Games, she had been unable to ply her trade sin ce late May, left weak and lethargic by the viral infection. She was forced to watch Anastasia Myskina steal her French Open crown in June a nd fellow Russian Maria Sharapova storm to a sensational Wimbledon triumph in h er absence. A third Russian, Svetlana Kuznetsova, took her U.S. Open title earlier this mon th and Henin-Hardenne had been hoping she could get back to the hard work which had put her on top of the world. But in recent weeks she has dropped from world number one to third in the WTA r ankings and is having to take things easy. "To play a grand slam right after (the Olympics) troubled many players at the U .S. Open," her long-time coach Carlos Rodriguez said. "Justine in particular, b ecause she just came back from a recovery period and she wasn't quite cured yet . "Nevertheless, we stay confident because we've seen that Justine can play speci al tennis when she's feeling well. We should be careful until the end of the ye ar, we shouldn't over do it."
