BRUSSELS - Belgium's Justine Henin-Hardenne will not play tennis for the rest of the year in a bid to recover from exhaustion.
Henin-Hardenne has not played since losing her world number one ranking at the U.S. Open last month where she was beaten in the fourth round by Nadia Petrova .
Despite winning the Australian Open and the Olympics, Henin-Hardenne has struggled for most of the year with the lingering effects of a virus.
She pulled out of last week's Filderstadt Grand Prix and also missed a WTA tournament in her home country the week before in a bid to recover her fitness.
"Despite the excellent shape I was in during the Olympics, I'm still feeling tired at the moment," the world number three was quoted as saying on her Web Site.
Her decision means she will also miss the year-ending WTA Championship from November 10-15.
