from Henin官網 17/03/2005: Justine’s official comeback is approaching fast. She’s currently still traini ng in Saddlebrook (Florida, USA). The cold and moist climate hasn’t prevented her from training outdoors. Everything goes very well! Justine will head for Miami (Florida, USA) on Sunday or Monday, the Nasdaq-100 Open starts on Wednesday. The Nasdaq-100 is one of the most important tournamen ts after the Grand Slams. Justine is currently ranked 21st in the WTA ranking. She will be part of the 32 seeded players with a bye in the first round. Her first match will be schedule d for Friday or Saturday, which gives her plenty of opportunity to adjust in th e days before. Protected ranking but not a protected seeded player Every player, who has been absent for at least six months due to an injury or i llness, can make an appeal to the protected rankings . This ranking is the same ranking the player had when she left the competition. Justine, who has been ab sent since September, has applied for and also received such a ranking. This al lows her to participate in the tournament, even though she’s not ranked high e nough to enter the list of admitted players. Because of this, she wasn’t force d to request a Wild Card. The protected ranking is not a synonym for protected seeded player. Until recen tly, players could request the statute of protected seeded player in case they were absent for six month and when they fulfilled certain conditions. (the most important advantage of that system was that the player didn’t have to play ag ainst (top) seeded players in the first round.) This rule was still in use for the regulations of 2005, but has been lifted a few weeks ago, which means that Justine can’t make use of it anymore. The draw of the tournament will probably be announced in the beginning of next week.
