Clijsters Looks To Rewrite History In Indian Wells
Belgian Kim Clijsters , who meets world No.1 Lindsay Davenport in Saturday's
final of the $2.1 million Pacific Life Open, is just one match from becoming
the lowest-ranked player ever to win a Tier I singles title. The former No.1,
now ranked No.133 after a career-threatening wrist injury, has shown remarkable
form in Indian Wells in only her second tournament this year.
Both Clijsters and Davenport posted straight-set semifinal wins over Russians
Friday. Clijsters ousted No.4 seed Elena Dementieva, while Davenport crushed
world No.3 and Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova 60 60 in 49 minutes
