Krajicek, Benesova to meet in Hobart final
HOBART, Australia (AP) -- Practice partners Iveta Benesova and Michaella
Krajicek will meet in a WTA Tour final for the first time at the Hobart
International.
Krajicek advanced with a 6-4, 6-2 semifinal win Thursday over Croatia's
Jelena Kostanic.
Fifth-seeded Czech Benesova beat Italy's Mara Santangelo 4-6, 7-5, 6-1.
"It's going to be a tough match and hopefully we'll have some fun as well,"
Krajicek said of Friday's final. "I'm not really thinking about (the title)
because when you think about that you get a little bit nervous."
The Dutch teenager said she has a similar style to Benesova.
"We're really close to each other in the way that we play," she said. "I think
my serve is a little better than hers, but I think her return is better than
mine."
Benesova struggled to find her rhythm in the first set, but recovered in the
second, pounding winners from the baseline.
"I was just concentrating on every single point and just fighting," Benesova
said. "I think she was down a little bit when I broke her back in the second
set and I found my confidence and I was pushing harder."
Benesova survived two difficult three-set matches in the first two rounds, and
two tiebreakers against fourth-seeded Amy Frazier to reach the semifinals.
She said the tough matches had advantages and disadvantages.
"It's good for my confidence to know that I can win tough matches but it's no
good for my energy," Benesova said.
