SIXTH-SEEDED Raemon Sluiter lived up to the home crowd's hopes when he
overcame Spaniard Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo 7-6 (7-4) 6-7 (7-2) 6-2 overnight
to reach the semifinals of the Dutch Open.
It's the third tournament in his Dutch homeland that Sluiter's made the
semifinals, after success at Amsterdam in 2000 and Rosmalen a month ago.
He'll meet either another Spaniard, Albert Montanes, or Austria's Markus
Hipfl, who ousted Dutchman John van Lottum 6-1 1-6 6-4 in a second-round
match postponed because of rain.
Seventh-seeded Nicolas Massu won his quarterfinals 6-2 7-5 against Dutch
wild card Dennis van Scheppingen, and will next play Peru's Luis Horna,
who downed Spain's Oscar Hernandez 6-7 (7-5) 6-3 6-3.
