Played well and ready for the American hard court 20-07-2003
I really played well today, if I can say so. On Saturday, I had a minor
hickup after a strong start, today I played well and focused from start
to finish. I knew of course that I had to get Husarova out of balance and
out of her own game, let her run as much as possible.
Because she would play pretty varied and tries to break the rhythm like that.
It created a few beautiful rallies, however, and even if you're on the court
you can enjoy it yourself. I felt fresh and relaxed again after those few days
at home. True resting, seeing friends, spending time at home (which is nearly
finished now). Making a 5-0 at the Fed Cup doesn't make you complain either!
Even the doubles were nice to watch. After that, howver, no time to party,
get packing and heading home.
Tomorrow morning I will be leaving for Stanford. But first I had to change
some rackets. I had to leave three behind at Wimbledon (one for the museum
and one for an auction), so I had to take care of the supplies for the
following weeks. It sounds strange but with the pressure on the rackets after
such a long flight I really can't do a thing. So I'll have them redone when
I get there.
And then I'm in the States for about six weeks. In Stanford I will first play
Raymond or qualifier Liu (in the second round). I am used to hard court
already. Even though it will be a bit faster outside than in Charleroi.
But then again, the movements are the same. I won't play the doubles in
Stanford, Ai is not around back there. So I can have a fairly quiet week.
After that my schedule is pretty tight anyway. Only the week before the US
Open I won't be having any tournament, but I'll fly to the Big Apple to do
some more training.
Lleyton is travelling along to Stanford, but after that he will be playng
his own tournaments. I will be seeing hin in New York. And a few weeks!
without him, I should be able to make it. ;-)
Now I better get packin'.
