Henin-Hardenne Challenged But Survives by Lucas Swineford Tuesday, August 26, 2003 Justine Henin-Hardenne began her quest to add a second Grand Slam championship to her resume today when she took on qualifier Aniko Kapros. The 2003 French Open champion opened up play inside Arthur Ashe Stadium for Day 2. Many were expecting the No. 2 seed to dismantle her opponent, finishing her work by noon in New York City. Many were wrong. Henin-Hardenne never looked comfortable in the first set but was able to pull it out, 7-5. Despite a weak second serve that averaged only 63 mph, Kapros hung around thanks to Henin-Hardenne's sloppy play. Leading the issues for Henin-Hardenne in the opening set was her first serve. Unable to hit it in play consistently, she allowed Kapros to break her serve twice. The second break came when she was serving for the set at 5-3. Forehands that she should have attacked aggressively for winners were sailing wide and long for the Belgian, only adding to her frustration. In the second set, though, we were introduced to the Justine Henin-Hardenne we all expected to see today at the USTA National Tennis Center. She tightened up her backhand and cut down on the unforced errors. Hitting her serve with cofidence, Henin-Hardenne didn't allow Kapros anywhere near a break point as she cruised in a quick second set, 6-3. -- ---禪心已作沾泥絮,莫向春風舞鷓鴣--- -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.csie.ntu.edu.tw) ◆ From: 140.118.122.144
