The tiebreak was a close run affair, won by the Belgian seven points to five, after Pistolesi fought back from 24 to 4-all. Other second round wins were recorded by No. 7 seed Vera Zvonareva (who will play Henin next) over experienced American, Amy Frazier. The Russian advances to play Henin-Hardenne in her 11th quarterfinal and her sixth at a Tier I event – all this year. This time the Yugoslav won eight of the last nine games to finish the match, despite suffering from a cold: “It feels great. Winning these two matches has given me a lot of confidence. I think it’s the best I’ve played in 14 or 15 months. At this point, I’m focusing on next year and trying to have a good start there. I’ve been working very hard the past few months, and sometimes it takes a while to see those results in matches” was how Dokic summarized her performance. In the day’s remaining second round match, Nadia Petrova upset No. 4 seed Elena Dementieva for the sixth time in eight career meetings, after losing to her compatriot in the first round of Filderstadt last week.
