Clijsters and Mauresmo to Meet in Season-Ending Final November 10, 2003 The final WTA Tour singles match of 2003 is now set, with a show down featuring current world No. 1 Kim Clijsters and No. 6 Amelie Mauresmo. The two will face each other in the championship match of the Bank of America WTA Tour Championships presented by Porsche. As the defending champion, Clijsters will be appearing in her second consecutive WTA Tour Championships final. Mauresmo is making her third appearance in the Championships and first in the final round, never playing past the first round on both previous occasions. Clijsters defeated Jennifer Capriati in Sunday’s first semifinal. Capriati led the match, 64, 32 and was up a break when she took a medical time-out, needing treatment for her right hip flexor. Following Capriati’s treatment, Clijsters won the next ten games to secure the victory, winning 46, 63, 60. “It's great, especially at the end of the year, to be in another final and to be in the position of being able to defend my title,'' Clijsters said. “Just give yourself 200 percent because you know after that it's over and you can have a relaxing holiday.'' Amelie Mauresmo earned her first berth into the Championships final upsetting Justine Henin-Hardenne, 76(2), 36, 63. Mauresmo’s showing in the semifinals was not definite until Chanda Rubin fell to Elena Dementieva in the final round of round robin play on Saturday. With Rubin leading Dementieva and two points from victory, Mauresmo was packing in her hotel room, until Dementieva came back to win, giving Mauresmo the edge over Rubin in round robin play. Mauresmo capitalized on the opportunity and upset current world No. 2 Henin-Hardenne. “It is one of my biggest wins, like the way I finished it off and the way I handled the loss of the second set against a top player like Justine,'' Mauresmo said. The champion will take away the largest prize in women’s sports of $1,000,030, the $30 in commemoration of the WTA Tour’s 30th anniversary. The Bank of America WTA Tour Championships presented by Porsche final can be seen live on ESPN2 on Monday, November 10 at 10:00pm (22.00 hrs) EST and live on Eurosport, Tuesday, November 11 at 4:00 CET. The final will be replayed on Eurosport again on Tuesday at 8:30 CET. -- ---禪心已作沾泥絮,莫向春風舞鷓鴣--- -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 140.118.122.153
