Tankersley signs Minor League deal with Mets
The Mets added another arm to the mix in their search for effective left-handed
relief, signing southpaw Taylor Tankersley to a Minor League deal, MLB.com has
confirmed.
The deal, first reported by the MLBlog SPANdemonium, includes an invitation to
Spring Training. Tankersley, who will turn 28 in March, was a first-round Draft
pick by the Marlins in 2004. He pitched for Florida from 2006-08 before missing
the entire '09 season because of a stress fracture in his left elbow.
Tankersley returned to big league action last year, appearing in 12 games and
pitching 27 innings. He compiled a 7.50 ERA and was granted free agency in
October after refusing a Minor League assignment. He will compete for a lefty
job in a bullpen that lost two southpaws when free agents Hisanori Takahashi (
Angels) and Pedro Feliciano (Yankees) signed elsewhere this winter.
