1.Pettitte邀請Ian Kennedy, Phil Hughes and Joba Chamberlain跟他一起訓練，
35分鐘的訓練那幾乎跟Andy Rocket以前作的差不多。三個年輕人還邀請其他人一起
參加。這樣一來，再加上總教練提供的跑步菜單，他們幾乎從早上8點一直動（跑）

TAMPA, Fla. --
Andy Pettitte is more than a decade older than some of his teammates in
the starting rotation. But they're the ones keeping up with him at 8 a.m.
almost every day, a good two hours before workouts officially begin at
Legends Field.
Soon after he arrived in camp, Pettitte approached Ian Kennedy, Phil Hughes
and Joba Chamberlain about joining him for his early morning conditioning.
The Big Three have since invited more of their teammates to join, including
Alan Horne, the 2007 Eastern League Pitcher of the Year.
"He tells us it's going to be tough now, but it's going to make August and
September a whole lot easier," Horne said.
The strenuous 35-minute workout, similar to the ones Pettitte used to do
with Roger Clemens, starts off with a seven-minute mile. Then it's a
series of exercises -- abdominals, mountain climbers, etc. -- alternating
with more running.
Combine that with the already rigorous running and conditioning routine
manager Joe Girardi prescribes, and the young pitchers are basically
moving constantly from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
"I'm not getting tired," Kennedy said. "My body feels really good. My legs
feel fresh. By the time I go out there to run again, I already feel like I
haven't done anything all day. I noticed when I'm done working out, I'll
be sweating a lot, but I won't be fatigued."
Hughes already plans to keep doing the conditioning during the season,
two to three times between starts. The results from the training, already,
are hard to argue with.
"It's probably the best shape I've been in," Kennedy said.
Reggie Jackson declined to comment on the Clemens affair, saying, "I'm
a friend of Rocket's, and I support him 100 percent."
Jackson, special advisor for the Yankees, arrived in camp yesterday.
Asked if it is hard to choose between Clemens' version of events or
Pettitte's, Jackson said, "I love them both. I'd like to have a brother
like Rocket and a son like Andy."
Non-roster pitcher Scott Strickland missed some of yesterday's workout
because of what Girardi called a "twinge" in his neck.
But Strickland resumed drills later in the day and said, "Just a little
something that's gone. I'm not hurt."
Girardi said Strickland, a right-hander, still is scheduled to pitch Friday
against South Florida.
The rotation for the spring appears to be set. Mike Mussina and
Jeff Karstens will start in today's intrasquad game, with Chamberlain,
Kennedy, Hughes and Strickland pitching Friday against USF.
Chien-Ming will pitch Saturday against the Phillies in Clearwater,
Pettitte at home against Philadelphia on Sunday, and then Mussina again
on Monday in Kissimmee against the Astros. Hughes will start Tuesday at
Dunedin against the Blue Jays on short rest since he will only pitch one
inning against South Florida.
Baseball America magazine has released its annual list of the game's top
100 prospects, and Chamberlain is ranked No. 3. Chamberlain, ranked 75th
last year, is on the list again because he is still eligible for Rookie
of the Year.
Outfielder Jose Tabata is ranked No. 37 (down from 27th a year ago),
outfielder Austin Jackson is No. 41 and Kennedy is No. 45.
The Yankees had four players on the list, tied for 10th in the majors.
