這是昨天的新聞了 Matsui ready to test knee Sunday, March 09, 2008 BY ED PRICE Star-Ledger Staff TAMPA, Fla. -- Hideki Matsui will get two or three plate appearances today in his spring debut. "He's ready to go," manager Joe Girardi said. Matsui is being brought along slowly this spring because he is recovering from November surgery on his right knee, which bothered him the final three months of last season. He will be the designated hitter today, with left field not planned until later in the week. "I'm good," Matsui said. "I'm ready." Matsui thinks the three weeks left in camp is enough time to get ready for the regular season. "We'll do as much as we can to get him at-bats," Girardi said. Third baseman Alex Rodriguez and catcher Jorge Posada, both with sore muscles near their right shoulder, are still scheduled to return to playing defense tomorrow. "No problems, but I just said, 'Nuh-uh' (for yesterday)," Girardi said. Rodriguez yesterday had a hit and a walk as the DH, while Posada did not play. Chien-Ming Wang worked in the bullpen for 25 minutes on fixing his delivery. Wang, hit hard in last year's postseason, got just two outs Tuesday while allowing six runs to Cincinnati. "He found his release point back again," said Posada, who caught most of the session. "He got better and better." Pitching coach Dave Eiland said Wang was bending his back knee too much, causing him to drift forward and not get the customary sink on his ball. At times during Wang's workout, Posada yelled to him, "You're jumping!" and "Stay back!" Eiland called it "a good day" for Wang. "He was down with everything," Eiland said. "The other day he didn't throw anything below the catcher's mask." Mike Mussina, who gave up five runs in two innings in his first Grapefruit League game, yesterday allowed one run (a wind-blown homer) in 2 2/3 innings. "For two outings, I know for the most part where the ball's going," said Mussina, who struck out five. Mussina topped out at about 86 mph. "Eighty-eight (even) in June is fine if I can get the ball where I want it," he said. "There should be a little bit more, hopefully. If I can get to anything with a '9' on it, I'll be fine." Right-handers Mark Melancon, Dan McCutchen, Steven Jackson, Steven White and Scott Strickland were reassigned to minor-league camp.... Outfielder Austin Jackson and right-hander Ian Kennedy yesterday were named winners of the 2007 Kevin Lawn awards and Yankees minor-league player and pitcher of the year, respectively. Jackson hit a combined .304 between Class A Charleston and Class A Tampa, while Kennedy progressed from Tampa all the way to the majors, going 12-3 with a 1.91 ERA in the minors. Kennedy's wife beats bulimia Allison Jaskowiak last week was thinking about going public with her fight to overcome bulimia, so she asked her husband what he thought. "If you're comfortable with it," Ian Kennedy said, "then go ahead and go for it." Jaskowiak, a basketball player at Southern Cal, described her battle with the eating disorder in yesterday's Los Angeles Times. She hoped that telling her tale will help other young women to seek help. And Jaskowiak credited Kennedy, the Yankees' pitcher whom she married last October, with helping her get through it. "He helped me rediscover who I was," she told the Times. Jaskowiak, 5-foot-11, told the Times she began inducing vomiting to lose weight in October 2003. She eventually weighed just 138 pounds. She began dating Kennedy, who pitched at USC, in February 2004. And he didn't know about the bulimia for weeks. "I just liked her just the way she was and I wasn't into all that superficial stuff that I didn't think she was involved in," Kennedy said. "It made me feel good because she said she didn't know why she was doing it and I loved her the way she was." Jaskowiak told the Times she has not purged since March 2004.
