Jorge Posada trusts Dr. James Andrews and will abide by whatever the noted orthopedic surgeon suggests. That could be two weeks of rest and rehab or surgery. If it’s surgery, it could mean 4-6 weeks or the rest of the season depending on how much damage there is. Injury expert Will Carrroll of Baseball Prospect, who I have the greates t respect for, suggests that Posada will need 30 days of rest and rehab but could return early to DH. At this point, nobody knows for sure. Sal Fasano: The Big Ragu is catching for the AAA Richmond Braves. He knows the pitchers a little and has a great mustache. Doug Mirabelli: Free agent who was cut by the Red Sox in spring training. That he remains a free agent should tell you something. Damian Miller: He is a free agent. Josh Paul: He’s catching in the minors for Houston. Mike Piazza: He has not caught a game since 2006 when he was with the Padres. The two best prospects are in Low Class A ball and they’re not being called up. Even if Francisco Cervelli were healthy, he’d stay with Trenton. The Yankees need to hope that Posada’s injury isn’t serious. Because if it is, the alternatives are not great. Of course Cashman could use one of his prospects to trade for somebody legit, like Ronny Paulino of Pittsburgh. The problem then becomes what happens next year.
