Four DPs turned by Texas, and four critical walks by Yankee pitching. "You can't walk people - especially in this ballpark. It's going to kill you,'' Joe Girardi said. Tonight's key situation? Top 7th, Texas leading 5-1. Bases loaded. Pinch-hitter Melky Cabrera pops out, for the second out. Damon then walks to force in a run, but Jeter lines out to end the frame. Why did Girardi send up the slumping Cabrera instead of Pudge Rodriguez (inserted as a pinch-runner)? He liked the match-up vs. right-hander Josh Rupe, and felt I-Rod might face lefty Eddie Guardado in a critical 9th-inning spot. Incidentally, Girardi said he did not have Molina catch Pettitte tonight because of that last start - a nine-run outburst by the Angels, where Pettitte and I-Rod were sometimes out of sync. It was more about alternating catchers in the heat (101 first pitch Monday, 93 tonight). But Pettitte now has a 9-8 mark and 5.50 ERA lifetime vs. Texas. Oh, and someone asked A-Rod (twice hit by a pitch) if the Rangers were throwing at him. "No. Stupid question,'' he said. Jose Veras, though, drew a warning for hitting Hamilton in obvious retaliation. Now, the Yanks are a game under .500 this year on the road.
