[新聞] Draft Roundup: Yonder Alonso
The Reds want to do a minor league deal with Yonder Alonso, which has caused
a stalemate. John Fay thinks he wants $7MM. Hal McCoy says the Reds are
offering a $2.5MM minor league deal. Fay talked to Alonso, who may join an
independent league and move in with Alex Rodriguez if need be.
I talked to Yonder Alonso a little bit ago. He was sticking to his tough
stance, saying he wouldn't sign unless the Reds gave him what he wanted,
which is believed to be a big league contract worth $7 million.
Before I hung up, I put it to him like this:
"If the Reds come to you Friday with a $3 million big league contract, what
will happen?"
"You'll be writing a story about me going to the independent league," he said.
I thought this would get done. But what I hadn't count on is the ARod factor.
Alex Rodriguez, that Alex Rodriguez, is Alonso workout partner and friend.
ARod has told Alonso if things don't work to his liking, he welcome to live
with Rodiguez next season and play for Newark or Long Island of the Atlantic
League. My guess ARod doesn't live in fifth floor walk-up.
There hasn't been a lot of back and forth between Alonso's representatives
and the Reds. But he did not rule out signing.
"I try to stay positive," he said. "They lost two big hitters. I'd love to
play there. But hey knew what I wanted when they draft me. If they weren't
going to give it to, why did they take me. They knew what they got themselves
into."
If the Reds doen't sign Alonso, they get the eighth pick in next year's draft.
