[新聞] Rasner in danger of losing spot in the rotation

BALTIMORE — Darrell Rasner lost his spot in the rotation earlier this month,
but got it back when Ian Kennedy pitched poorly in his one-game tryout.
He could be in danger again after a shaky outing against the Baltimore
Orioles yesterday.
Rasner lasted only 3 1/3 innings, giving up five runs (three earned) on eight
hits and two walks.
"It was a struggle," said Rasner, who has a 5.03 ERA. "I was concentrating on
trying to get the ball down and I wasn't able to. I lost feel for breaking
stuff and I couldn't get those over early in the count."
Rasner, who threw 98 pitches, allowed back-to-back home runs by Melvin Mora
and Aubrey Huff in the first inning. Up 7-2 going into the bottom of the
fourth inning, he allowed three runs.
An error by Derek Jeter on a grounder off the bat of Brian Roberts preceded a
single by Nick Markakis that left fielder Xavier Nady misplayed, allowing a
run to score. When Rasner walked Mora, that was the end of his day.
Rookie David Robertson came in and allowed an RBI double by Huff and a
sacrifice fly by Kevin Millar.
"I feel terrible," Rasner said after the Yankees came away with an 8-7 win.
"The bullpen did a great job to pick me up. I just wish I could have been
better. I'm disgusted with how I threw."
A-Rod a target: Baltimore starter Daniel Cabrera nearly hit Alex Rodriguez
with a pitch in the first inning, and then drilled him in the left arm in the
fourth inning. It was the second time this season that Cabrera has hit
Rodriguez and the fifth time he has hit a Yankee.
Girardi has expressed anger with Cabrera. But it's not like the right-hander
has much of an idea where the ball is going. He leads the American League in
walks (78), hit batters (18) and wild pitches (14).
Cabrera was 3-0 with a 3.15 ERA in three starts against the Yankees earlier
this season. But he lasted only 3 2/3 innings this time, allowing seven runs
on nine hits with three walks. He threw 95 pitches. Johnny Damon had a
three-run homer in the second inning, and Xavier Nady a two-run double in the
fourth.
Next for Joba: The Yankees are off today. But Joba Chamberlain will report to
Yankee Stadium to throw in the bullpen as he continues to recover from a
shoulder injury.
Chamberlain threw 30 pitches off the mound on Saturday and will be limited to
35 today, a sign that he is not progressing as rapidly as the Yankees are
saying. Most pitchers recovering from injuries increase their workload by 15
pitches as they build arm strength.
Girardi claimed the Yankees have no plans for Chamberlain beyond today's
workout. "We'll see how he does," he said.
Right-hander Dan Giese, who is also on the disabled list with a shoulder
injury, will throw today as well.
Extra bases: Derek Jeter (0 for 5) had his hit streak snapped at nine games.
... Pudge Rodriguez was 1 for 4 and has only three hits in his last 18
at-bats. He has driven in one run in 46 at-bats with the Yankees. ... In what
might have been the biggest upset of the day, Carl Pavano reported no
injuries after his start on Saturday night. He is scheduled to start against
Toronto Friday night at Yankee Stadium. ... The Yankees finished their road
trip 4-2. ... The Yankees scored 31 runs during the six games of the road
trip. The players said having the same lineup (with the exception of the
catcher) helped. "Everything is more settled now," Jason Giambi said.
