http://yankees.lhblogs.com/ 彼得胖的文章其實並不具有新聞的性質只是當了八年NYY迷上個月剛完成自己這輩子第一次也肯定是最後一次的老球場體驗對於這個擁有無數動人歷史.傳奇場面和面孔數都數不清的85歲Yankee Stadium 突然有了一股奇特的情感相信對於洋基隊本身和永遠的世仇-隔壁襪子更是意義重大明天開始的三天就是襪子最後一次在這裡打球了我們也是最後一次在這裡面對這個永遠最可敬的對手和享受滿場五萬多人瘋狂的支持半夜睡不著看了彼得胖的farewell深有感觸因此想翻譯一下和大家分享這個不凡的時刻應該可以吧 XD Tonight will be the 771st time the Red Sox will play the Yankees at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees have won 483 of the games and there have been four ties. That doesn’t include 10 games in the ALCS. 今晚(台灣時間今早)將是紅襪隊第771次在Yankee Stadium面對洋基隊我們贏了其中483場比賽(譯按:勝率.667) 有四場和局(譯按:MLB正規上大家都知道是要打到分出勝負為止的但若雙方選手都已用完或打滿五局後因天候等因素不能繼續比賽由於打滿五局後選手成績和比賽結果就會列入正式比賽紀錄於是和局還是有可能的這是為什麼有些球隊季末戰績會顯示打了163場或更多的原因古老年代由於科技較不發達如沒有屋頂或沒有照明因此天太黑後就不能打等因素和局的紀錄較多) 這771場比賽還不包括10場的美聯冠軍賽(譯按:不管MLB史上任何賽制兩隊在季後賽要碰頭只有ALCS這個場合有可能) If you’re a regular visitor to the Stadium, you know the games against Boston have a different feel. No matter if it’s April or September, seeing the Yankees and Red Sox on the field together is an event. You don’t want to avert your eyes because something is going to happen. 如果你是造訪球場的常客你一定明白對抗波士頓的比賽感覺是特別不同的不論是四月或九月看到北佬和襪子同在一個球場上總是一件大事你不會想移開你的目光因為一定有太多精采的事會發生 Part of it is the talent. Both teams have always spent money to get the best players. DiMaggio played against Williams. Yaz played against Mantle. Now everybody hates Kevin Youkilis just like they used to hate Bill Lee. 而就像十月先生Reggie Jackson以及Manny和A-Rod曾扮演過的角色一樣現在每個人也都像憎恨當年Bill Lee一樣的恨著Kevin Youkilis (譯按:Bill Lee是紅襪隊史上偉大的左投 1976年時曾經在基襪群架中傷了左肩先一口咬定是洋基三壘手Nettles幹的看了錄影帶發現不是後又改怪洋基總教練 Billy Martin沒約束好球員害他在本壘板被擒抱而前面三個巨星以及Youkilis在近年基襪戰中的爭議與角色就不用多介紹了吧(笑) 這段彼得胖是要表達他們都曾或因球場表現或因人格特質而讓自家球迷又愛又恨也讓對方球迷恨之入骨而基襪戰中永不缺這樣的球員和故事) Geography dictates the passion to a large degree as well. New York kids go to school in Boston. Boston kids come to New York seeking their place in the world. Boston has the hospitals; New York has the museums. Connecticut sometimes feels like a demilitarized zone between two city-states at war for 100 years, a modern Athens and Sparta. 地理因素也使世仇間的情緒溫度升到最高點紐約的孩子們到波士頓去求學 (譯按:Boston是世界級的知識殿堂哈佛和麻省理工都在這裡) 而波士頓的傑出孩子則來到紐約尋求他們立足全世界的舞台波士頓有最好的醫院紐約則有最棒的博物館康乃狄克(位於兩城之間)百年來像是兩城戰爭間的非軍事停火區 N.Y.和Boston 猶如當代的雅典與斯巴達 That’s never going to change. But when the Yankees move across the street, it will be different next season. The new Stadium will have the same dimensions but it will never have the same feel. You won’t be able to lean forward in right field and be fairly sure that J.D. The players will be great and you’ll care just as much. But it won’t be the same. How can you sit at an air-conditioned martini bar and build up a good hate for Jon Papelbon ? OK, bad example. But you know what I mean. 下個球季我們會有很不錯的新家很棒的新豪華包廂以及同樣不帶感情的坐在最接近內野的奢華座位的富人們球員們還是都會那麼星光閃閃而你一樣會關心他們那麼的多但一切都不再相同了你怎能坐在一個空調的馬丁尼酒吧裡然後建構起你對寶貝碰的恨意? 好吧比喻很爛我知道但你懂我的意思的對吧 Why baseball scheduled Boston’s last visit to the Stadium in August instead of September, I have no idea. But at least these games are important ones.
