http://0rz.tw/d05er NEW YORK -- If the Yankees are about to sign Manny Ramirez, Hal Steinbrenner says he hasn't heard about it. The co-chairman told Newsday on Monday that the Yankees have not made an offer to the free-agent slugger, further debunking a report out of the Dominican Republic that said Ramirez may soon sign a three-year, $75-million contract with New York. Earlier in the day, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman told MLB.com that the report -- published by Impacto Deportivo -- was "not true." The Yankees do not have an offer on the table to either Ramirez or Mark Teixeira, a fellow Scott Boras client. While Steinbrenner did not rule out the idea of making an offer to either player in the future, he told the newspaper, "There've been no offers made." On the Teixeira front, Newsday said the Yankees at least talked dollars with Boras, but that occurred before the Winter Meetings in Las Vegas. When Boras told the Yankees the years and average annual salary he was seeking for the free-agent first baseman, the club reportedly pulled back and said it would not meet those demands. The scenario is strikingly similar to the sequence of events that led Red Sox principal owner John Henry to send a public e-mail to reporters in which he stated it seemed Boston was "not going to be a factor" in the pursuit of Teixeira. The Yankees have not confirmed whether they will make an 11th-hour offer for Teixeira, who can also now count the Angels out among his list of potential suitors.
