Yankees Sure, it's difficult to cough up almost $450 million and not have a great offseason, but the Yankees are indeed a much better team. In CC Sabathia they have an elite-level ace at the front of the rotation, and in A.J. Burnett they have a useful arm in the second or third spot (provided he stays healthy, of couse). Mark Teixeira gives them power and on-base skills in the middle of the lineup, and he'll also improve the shoddy infield defense. And the trade for Nick Swisher gives them positional flexibility and another option in center. As for the re-signing of Andy Pettitte, it gives them uncommon depth in the rotation. Edgar Renteria, whose peripherals suggest a rebound year at the plate, is a significant upgrade at short, and Jeremy Affeldt may be the value reliever of the offseason. Also, Bob Howry is a bounceback candidate. In fact, the Oakland bullpen may be the best in the game.
