原來Jeter這場盜壘被判出局反應這麼大的原因是, 的確球先到但沒有觸到他, 他 向三壘審Marty Foster表示Rolen的手套沒有觸到他, 要Foster解釋為何判出局, Foster 居然說: "他不需要觸到; 球比你先到就出局了。" 難怪Jeter反應這麼大。 裁判長John Hirschbeck表示: "現在不能這樣判, 不能說球先到就判出局。以前裁判 習慣會這麼判, 但現在不能這樣就判出局。" Hirschbeck說會查看看是不是三壘審Foster 真的這樣說。 Jeter不爽的表示: "我不知道是不是棒球規則改了嗎?" You won't believe the one he says he got. When Jeter said "he didn't tag me,'' the shortstop claims Foster actually answered "He didn't have to; the ball beat you.'' Jeter _ irate on the field, restrained by 3B coach Rob Thomson and protected by Joe Girardi _ is essentially saying Foster doesn't know the rules or just lied. "It's not like that anymore. You can't just say if the ball beat you, you're out. It's not a reason to call someone out. It used to be that way, it is true; but it's not like that anymore,'' crew chief John Hirschbeck said. He didn't know if Foster actually said that, but planned to find out. "I haven't had a chance to discuss it, and we will. Tomorrow at some point we'll have lunch and we'll talk about it, the whole thing. It's important to get the play right, but it's equally important how you handle it. You can get a play right and say the wrong thing and start a major riot. I'm going to find out what he said.'' For his part, Jeter _ who was called out by Girardi for a baserunning decision that resulted in the out _ said "I was baffled by the explanation. I was told I was out because the ball beat me and he didn't have to tag me. (I told him) I was unaware of that change in the rules.'' And while the stately Jeter's reaction didn't automatically make Hirschbeck assume Foster blew the call outright, it didn't make him figure something might be up. "Sometimes you just a miss a play; you're human and you miss it,'' said Hirschbeck, acknowledging the reaction from Jeter was out of character. "Yes, it is. He, in my 27 years in the big leagues might be the classiest person I've ever been around in uniform. "They get emotionally involved, so I don't think that right away (it was a bad call). But I do think, wow that's unusual, and I did at the time.'' And if Foster actually told Jeter some tripe like he's being accused of, just flat-out against the rules... "Which would make his actions seem appropriate, if that's what he was told; I would think that would aggravate him,'' Hirschbeck said. "We go back and review the situation, review what might've been said and you learn from it: That's the only way we get better at what we do. And if you don't learn from it, shame on you.
