After more than two full years at Double-A, Josh Schmidt is on his way up to
SWB to help out the thin pitching staff. Also, Top Prospect Alert interviewed
Corban Joseph.
Triple-A Scranton (10-2 loss to Columbus) they got their first look at an old
buddy
Greg Golson, CF, Eduardo Nunez, SS, Juan Miranda, 1B & Jon Weber, DH: all 1
for 4 – Golson drove in a run & K’ed twice … Miranda committed a fielding
error … Weber scored a run & K’ed twice
Reegie Corona, 2B: 3 for 4, 1 2B, 1 RBI – five for his last nine
David Winfree, RF, Jesus Montero, C & Robby Hammock, 3B: all 0 for 4 -
Winfree committed a fielding error … Hammock scored a run K’ed twice … in
case you missed it, Montero was in fact benched because he didn’t run out a
grounder
Chad Huffman, LF: 2 for 4, 1 K
Amaury Sanit: 3 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 3-3 GB/FB – 44 of his 65
pitches were strikes (67.7%) … not easy for a career reliever to spot start
when the scheduled starter suddenly ends up in the big leagues
Kevin Whelan: 2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 0 K, 2-3 GB/FB – exactly half of
his 52 pitches were strikes … 232-121 K/BB ratio in 196 IP since joining the
organization in the Gary Sheffield trade
Josh Schmidt: 3 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 HB, 3-4 GB/FB – 35 of 52
pitches were strikes (67.3%) … welcome to AAA
Zack Segovia: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 2-1 GB/FB – 14 of 23 pitches
were strikes (60.9%) … first run allowed since April 20th
Double-A Trenton (8-2 win over New Britain)
Justin Christian, LF: 2 for 4, 2 R, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 BB – on base seven times
in his three games back
Austin Krum, CF: 3 for 5, 1 RBI
David Adams, 2B: 0 for 5
Austin Romine, DH: 2 for 5, 2 R, 1 K – 15 for his last 40 (.375)
Brandon Laird, 3B: 0 for 3, 2 R, 2 BB, 2 K
Dan Brewer, RF: 2 for 4, 1 HBP
Kevin Smith, 1B: 0 for 0, 1 BB – not sure why he was lifted
Marcos Vechionacci, 1B: 1 for 4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K
Jose gil, C: 3 for 4, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 K, 1 PB – got a nice little six game hit
streak going, but he only plays once or twice a week
Luis Nunez, SS: 1 for 4, 1 RBI, 1 K, 1 E (fielding)
Ryan Pope: 6 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 1 WP, 1 HB, 8-6 GB/FB
Eric Wordekemper: 2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 0-1 GB/FB
Noel Castillo: 1 IP, zeroes, 1-2 GB/FB
High-A Tampa (4-1 loss to Fort Myers) faced the 22nd overall pick from last
year’s draft, who’s also a personal fave of mine
Jack Rye, RF, Neil Medchill, LF & Addison Maruszak, 1B: all 0 for 3 – Rye
drew a walk … Medchill walked, scored a run & K’ed three times … Maruszak
drove in a run & K’ed
Corban Joseph, 2B, Bradley Suttle, 3B & Trent Lockwood, DH: all 1 for 4 –
CoJo got caught stealing & K’ed … Suttle doubled & K’ed … Lockwood K’ed
twice
Melky Mesa, CF: 1 for 3, 1 2B, 1 BB, 2 K
Jose Pirela, SS: 0 for 4, 2 K, 2 E (both fielding)
Mitch Abeita, C: 1 for 3, 1 2B, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 E (pickoff)
Hector Noesi: 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 8 K, 1 Balk, 1 HB, 5-5 GB/FB –
K/BB ratio is up to 47-5 in 38 IP
Pat Venditte: 1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 1-1 GB/FB
Brandon Braboy: 2 IP, zeroes, 1 K, 1-4 GB/FB
Low-A Charleston (4-3 win over Delmarva)
Jimmy Paredes, SS, DeAngelo Mack, RF & Ray Kruml, CF: all 1 for 3 – Paredes
drew a walk, stole a base, got caught stealing another & K’ed … Mack K’ed
& threw a runner out at second … Kruml scored a run
Justin Milo, LF, Kyle Higashioka, DH & Emerson Landoni, 2B: all 0 for 4 –
Landoni scored a run & K’ed
Luke Murton, 1B: 2 for 4, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI – eight for his last 19 (.421)
Rob Lyerly, 3B: 1 for 4, 1 R, 1 2B, 2 K, 1 E (fielding)
Francisco Arcia, C: 2 for 4, 1 2B, 1 RBI – got picked off second
Graham Stoneburner: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 2-0 GB/FB – don’t
freak out, this was almost assuredly by design … he’s probably on his way
to Tampa later this week, but they didn’t want him to go stale in the
meantime
Sean Black: 4 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, 2-5 GB/FB – the fact that
Stoneburner was relieved by another starter is pretty strong evidence that
his one inning appearance was intentional
Michael Solbach: 3 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 2-2 GB/FB
Ronny Marte: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 1-0 GB/FB
