Melancon slams the door in SWB win

I’ve been meaning to mention this for two days now, but I inexcusably kept
forgetting. Mike Ashmore was able to talk the Yankees’ seventh best
prospect and Double-A Trenton lefty Jeremy Bleich into answering questions
from us lowly fans. All the details are available here, so head on over and
ask something that’ll make us look intelligent. I’m curious to know what
his first big purchase was with his $700,000 signing bonus.
Meanwhile, check out Matt from Fack Youk’s first hand report from Bleich’s
start last night.
Triple-A Scranton
Game One (4-3 loss to Columbus in 7 innings) makeup of yesterday’s rain out
Reegie Corona, 2B & Eduardo Nunez, SS: both 1 for 4 – Corona doubled, scored
a run & K’ed … Nunez K’ed twice
Matt Cusick, 3B: 0 for 2, 1 R, 2 BB, 1 E (throwing)
David Winfree, 1B: 2 for 3, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 K – quietly having a nice year
Jon Weber, RF & Jesus Montero, C: both 0 for 3 – Weber K’ed twice …
Montero allowed a passed ball
Chad Huffman, LF: 0 for 2, 2 K
Robby Hammock, DH & Justin Snyder, CF: both 1 for 3 – Hammock scored a run &
K’ed … Snyder’s up from Trenton because SWB doesn’t have a true CF with
Colin Curtis on the DL & Greg Golson in the bigs
Dustin Moseley: 6 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 11-6 GB/FB – 58 of 101
pitches were strikes (57.4%) … the pitching staff has been a wreck will the
recent callups, so I’m sure the bullpen appreciates the six innings
Royce Ring: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 0-2 GB/FB – just 12 of his 26
pitches were strikes (46.1%)
Game Two (5-3 win over Columbus in 7 innings)
Reegie Corona, 2B: 1 for 4
Robby Hammock, 3B, Eduardo Nunez, SS, David Winfree, 1B, Jesus Montero, DH &
Justin Snyder, CF: all 1 fo 3 – Hammock K’ed twice … Nunez scored a run …
Winfree doubled, drove in a run & scored another … Montero drove in a run,
scored one & K’ed … Snyder plated a run
Jon Weber, RF & Chad Huffman, LF: both 2 for 3, 1 R – Weber doubled …
Huffman drove in a run & K’ed
Chad Moeller, C: 0 for 2, 1 K
The Ghost of Kei Igawa: 4.1 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 7 K, 2-5 GB/FB – 54 of
91 pitches were strikes (59.3%)
Mark Melancon: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K, 2 WP, 1-1 GB/FB – 26 of
his 43 pitches were strikes (60.5%) … at one point he had five strikeouts
but just four outs on the board because Shelley Duncan reached first on a
wild pitch strike three
Double-A Trenton was rained out. Not sure when they’re going to make this
one up, but they don’t return to New Britain until the end of June.
High-A Tampa (2-1 loss to Fort Myers)
Jack Rye, RF: 2 for 4, 1 2B – had been a little one for nine slump, but he
bumps his AVG back up to .370
Walt Ibarra, 3B, Melky Mesa, CF & Neil Medchill, LF: all 1 for 4 – Ibarra
doubled, got caught stealing & committed a throwing error … Mesa threw a
runner out at third & K’ed … Medchill tripled, scored a run & K’ed twice
Corban Joseph: 0 for 4, 2 K – hitless in his last eight at-bats with six
strikeouts
Bradley Suttle, 1B, Jose Pirela, SS & Trent Lockwood, DH: all 0 for 3 –
Suttle walked & K’ed twice … Pirela stole a base, struck out & committed a
throwing error … Lockwood K’ed twice
Andrew Brackman: 4.2 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 5-2 GB/FB – good news:
that’s just his second walk of the season … bad news: 35 hits in 20.1 IP
Craig Heyer: 3.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 7-1 GB/FB – GB/FB ratio is
over three on the year
Jon Ortiz: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 1-0 GB/FB
Low-A Charleston (6-4 win over Augusta) for the second time this season, they
beat up on the sixth overall pick from the 2009 draft
Jimmy Paredes, 2B & Rob Lyerly, 1B: both 1 for 4, 1 RBI – Paredes doubled
scored a run & K’ed
Justin Milo, LF: 2 for 3, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 SB
Luke Murton, DH, Kyle Higashioka, C, DeAngelo Mack, RF & Garrison Lassiter,
3B: all 0 for 3 – Murton drew a walk & scored a run … Higashioka got hit by
a pitch … Mack drew a walk & K’ed … Lassiter drew a walk, K’ed twice &
committed a throwing error
Kelvin Castro, SS & Ray Kruml, CF: both 3 for 4, 1 R – Kruml doubled
Jairo Heredia: 6.2 IP, 11 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 1 Balk, 11-5 GB/FB - the
ground balls continue to be there, but he’s still just too hittable
Ryan Flannery: 2.1 IP, zeroes, 5 K, 2-0 GB/FB – now that’s a save
