[洋基] Yankees postgame
Mark Teixeira’s bruise is below his left big toe.
He suffered the injury in the first inning when he fouled a ball off,
before he was hit by a pitch.
He had trouble running to first on his second at-bat, in the third inning,
and then decided to come out. The X-rays were negative,
and Teixeira said he would probably be back in there Wednesday night. …
Javier Vazquez would surely love to win back some credibility with the fans
here and put his slow start this year and the 2004 ALCS behind him once and
for all.
So both he and Joe Girardi saw his brilliant work in front of the
home crowd – seven innings, one run, four hits, one walk, seven strikeouts
— as being big.
“Obviously I want to pitch good here,” Vazquez said.
“Everybody knows it. I’m working on that. It feels great to throw a
good game here. Whoever says it’s not important, I think it was important to
go out there and throw a good game.”
That’s three quality starts in the last four tries for Vazquez.
He said he’s locating his fastball better. …
Robinson Cano now has a 15-game hitting streak, the longest by a Yankee
this year. He’s batting .453 (29 for 64) with two homers and 17 RBI
over this span. …
Derek Jeter is batting .500 (19 of 38) over his last nine games after
going 2 for 3 with a walk. …
Joba Chamberlain had an impressive 1-2-3 eighth after his recent problems. …
Curtis Granderson belted his first homer off a lefty since April 22, 2009,
when he was with the Tigers and Joe Saunders was on the mound for the Angels.
Granderson has four hits off lefties since coming off the DL Friday.
“The reason I made it to the big leagues was because I was able to hit
left-handers in the minor leagues,” Granderson said. “I have to continue
to battle. … It’s still a long way to go to get to the point where I can say,
'Hey, there’s no issue one way or another.’ ” …
The Yankees have won three straight and six of eight to move to 32-20.
The Orioles have lost six straight and are a major-league worst 15-37.
“Right now, I think we’re past having to ask me if I’m frustrated,”
manager Dave Trembley said. …
Wednesday night it’s Phil Hughes (6-1, 2.70) vs. righty Brad Bergesen
(3-3, 5.96).
That’s it for tonight.
