There’s a big market for top shelf pitchers this season. Seattle has already moved Cliff Lee to the Rangers and two former all star and staff aces Dan Haren and Roy Oswalt are expected to find new addresses by 4 pm July 31st. In the mix of all this trade discussion is AL Cy Young winner Zack Greinke possibly being on the move. While Greinke does not put much stress on the Kansas City budget, his current trade value may be at an all time high. Its pretty obvious that the Royals are no where near winning any time soon so the KC brass is considering moving Greinke for a few top shelf prospects. Kansas City already holds one of the strongest and most dynamic farm systems in the league. Perhaps sucking up a couple more seasons of losing by trading Greinke and possibly fellow budding star Billy Butler could create KC into a real power in the AL central. The average fan may look at this and question why a team would want to move a Cy Young winner whose contract is very manageable, but Greinke will soon be arbitration eligible and he is entering the prime of his career. It makes very little sense for the Royals to pay Greinke for them to keep losing and it also hurts his career by preventing him from winning.
