Yankees signed C Russell Martin to a one-year, $4 million contract.
Martin accepted a smaller guarantee than he would have made with the Dodgers,
though he will have a chance to make an additional $1.4 million in
performance-based incentives. The 27-year-old backstop is expected to be the
No. 1 catcher in the Bronx next season, but he has an awful lot to prove.
Martin has an underwhelming .249/.350/.330 batting line over the past two
seasons and is currently recovering from a season-ending hip fracture.
