Yankees manager Joe Girardi spoke to MSG's Jill Martin at halftime of the Knicks -Clippers game on Wednesday night and addressed the possibility of Derek Jeter moving to center field. "It all depends on how long he plays the game,” the Yankee manager said. “He's our shortstop and that's what we plan on him being ... but if he plays beyond this contract it's possible he plays somewhere else." The issue of Jeter moving to center field was raised by general manager Brian Cashman late last month. Cashman said at a WFAN breakfast in late January that he could foresee the 36-year-old short stop moving to center field at some point during his three-year $51 million contract that contains a fourth-year player option. "I like corner outfielders and corner infielders who have power, so for me, if he's ever gonna move, it's probably gonna be a Robin Yount situation. But we don't have to deal with it at this point," Cashman said. "We'll deal with it when we have to." Cashman said that he would "be surprised" if Jeter stays there for the duration, "but that doesn't mean it's not possible."
