[新聞] Warmer temperature helps Soriano
The game-time temperature of Sunday night's matchup between the Yankees and the
Rangers registered at 57 degrees, an 11-degree improvement from Saturday's
starting temperature.
That made a difference for Yankees reliever Rafael Soriano.
"I think that helped me a little bit being warmer today," Soriano said.
After giving up two runs Saturday during the frigid conditions, Soriano
rebounded to throw a scoreless inning and record the victory in warmer
temperatures in the Yankees' 6-5 win Sunday night. He gave up one hit and had
one strikeout against the bottom of the Rangers lineup.
"I feel more comfortable today," Soriano said.
Soriano's two worst performances as a Yankee have come in colder temperatures.
He gave up four runs in two-thirds of an inning on April 5, when the game-time
temperature was 45 degrees. On Saturday, he yielded two runs and nearly blew a
3-0 advantage.
Soriano said he usually has slow starts in April as he builds his arm strength.
"I told the manager, 'In April, you're not gonna see 95-96,'" he said.
"But wait until the weather gets better. That's how it's been for me the last
four years."
