One of the young intriguing arms in the Yankee organization, Jose Ramirez went 6-0 with a 1.41 ERA in the Gulf Coast League, and won the MiLBY as Short-Season Starting Pitcher of the Year. His 7.23 base-runners/9 IP ratio was the lowest on the rookie-level. He started the summer with a six-inning, one-hit shutout in which he struck out eight and didn’t walk a batter and finished the summer with a two-hit, nine-strikeout scoreless six-inning performance in which he didn’t walk a batter. He capped off a string of four straight scoreless starts spanning 24 innings. His fastball keeps improving and he can locate it well. He can get it to his glove side which is a really good indicator of command for his age. He throws it with great power and has great movement on it. When he started his career he threw 89-92 and now he reaches 96 like I just mentioned. His fastball has natural sink. It moves when he throws it and this means he has potential to throw a sinking fastball in the future. He’s not known to have any weaknesses with his fastball and he throws like Mariano Rivera. His movements are calm and fluid and the next thing you know the fastball is bearing down on you. His fluid motions allow him to pitch deeper into games. Ramirez can spin the ball and has a good feel for his power change up. He throws it between 79-83 mph and the drastic change in speed from his fastball to his change up can be devastating to batters. He throws a slurve between 77-81 mph. The Future: Has potential to be a big star if he develops his slider more. His change up is devastating and not many big league pitchers have as good a change up like he has.
