Yanks' Rivera becomes first pitcher to make 1,000 appearances with one team Mariano Rivera became the first pitcher in Major League Baseball to make 1,000 appearances on the mound with the same team (he also becomes the 15th pitcher in MLB history to appear in 1,000 games overall - the 14 players ahead of him all made appearances for more than one team.
