Yankees acquire RHP Cody Eppley

On the eve of Opening Day, the Yankees have added some more
pitching depth to the organization by claiming reliever Cody
Eppley off waivers from the Texas Rangers.
Drafted by Texas in 2008, the 26-year-old right-hander
compiled a 2.86 ERA and struck out 250 batters in 220 Minor
League innings in the Rangers organization from 2008-2011. He
emerged as somewhat of a “righty specialist” last season at
Triple-A Round Rock, holding righty batters to a .217 average.
Eppley also has some Major League experience with the Rangers.
He made his Major League debut early last season but
struggled, allowing eight earned runs, 11 hits, and five walks
in just 10 innings in April and May before being optioned back
to Triple-A.
He has been assigned to Triple-A Empire State, who open their
season on Thursday against Lehigh Valley. As there was an
empty spot on the Yankees’ 40-man roster, no corresponding
move was necessary to add Eppley.
