The Potomac Nationals will face the Salem Red Sox in the second game of a
minor league doubleheader at Fenway Park on July 10, the Boston Red Sox
announced Wednesday. The P-Nats will make their first appearance in the
fifth-annual Futures at Fenway presented by Comcast.
After a one-year absence, Boston's Class-A affiliate, the Lowell Spinners,
will return to take part in the 2010 Futures at Fenway. Lowell will take on
the Class-A affiliate of the Florida Marlins, the Jamestown Jammers, in part
one of the doubleheader at 12:05 p.m. Class-A Advanced Potomac and Salem will
square off in the second game of the doubleheader.
"It's a wonderful opportunity for our players to play at such a fantastic
ballpark as Fenway," Potomac Nationals Vice President/General Manager
Jonathan Griffith said. "We will be offering ticket and travel packages for
our fans to make the trip to Boston and we're especially excited for (Potomac
Nationals Chariman and CEO) Art (Silber) to take his place in the first base
coach's box at Fenway."
Similar to the four previous events, family-friendly ticket and concession
prices along with kid-friendly activities will highlight this day of minor
league fun at "America's Most Beloved Ballpark." The games in 2006, 2007,
2008 and 2009 were played in front of capacity crowds eager to see baseball's
stars of tomorrow.
Kids attending the event will be selected randomly throughout the day to
participate in a number of exciting activities including mascot races and
other on-field activities. Additionally, youngsters will be able to get
autographs from the players during special autograph sessions scheduled on
the stadium concourse.
Tickets will be available for fans to sit in ballpark locations many have
never before had the chance to enjoy, such as the Green Monster Seats, Right
Field Roof Deck, Dugout Seats, the EMC Club and the State Street Pavilion
Club. Prices start as low as $5 for Upper Bleachers and range up to just $30
for Green Monster Seats, Dugout Seats, the EMC Club and the State Street
Pavilion Club. In addition, discounted concession items will be available for
fans attending Futures at Fenway.
Red Sox season ticket holders, members of Red Sox Nation and members of Red
Sox Kid Nation presented by Hood have a first opportunity to purchase
tickets. Those fans have already been contacted with details.
Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 13.
Visit RedSox.com or by call (877) REDSOX-9 to purchase tickets. Fans with
disabilities may also call (877) REDSOX-9 to purchase accessible seating
(while supplies last). The Red Sox' TTY number for hearing-impaired fans is
(617) 226-6644.
Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino approached the Red Sox four years ago with the
idea to host minor league games at Fenway Park.
"Events like Futures at Fenway reflect the team's commitment to creating
opportunities for more fans to experience America's Most Beloved Ballpark,"
said Red Sox President/CEO Larry Lucchino. "Thanks to the suggestion of Mayor
Menino, and the family-friendly ticket prices, many of our fans enjoy a
relaxing day of minor league fun at Fenway where they see the franchise's
future stars in action."
Although records are incomplete, the games in 2006 are believed to be the
first minor league games played at Fenway Park since the 1977 Eastern League
All-Star Game. The last known regular season minor league game played at
Fenway had been a 1966 Eastern League contest between Pittsfield (Red Sox)
and Pawtucket (Indians).
