Before the Washington Nationals took on the Chicago Cubs on Monday night,
General Manager Mike Rizzo provided an update on a number of rehabilitating
players.
-- Pitcher Jordan Zimmermann, who underwent elbow ligament replacement
surgery last August, is so far ahead of schedule the Nationals want
to reign him in. He has already thrown a live batting practice session
and is still planned to return to Washington by late August.
-- Catcher Jesus Flores, who is recovering from right shoulder surgery
underwent last fall, is swinging the bat and beginning his throwing
program.
-- Pitcher Chien-Ming Wang, who was placed on the 60-day disabled list
in April with a strained shoulder, told Rizzo he "he felt the best he's
felt since the surgery." Wang had surgery last June.
-- Pitcher Ross Detwiler, who was placed on the 60-day disabled list in
April with a torn hip flexor, is back to fully working out and is throwing
again.
