Fu-Te Ni made his major-league debut to replace Porcello and struck out
Giambi and got Suzuki to fly out to end the inning.
The Tigers got on the board in the sixth. Marcus Thames led off the inning
with a walk. With one out, Brandon Inge walked. Michael Wuertz then replaced
Brett Anderson and then struck out Magglio Ordoñez, but Gerald Laird doubled
down the leftfield line to score Thames.
Sweeney responded for A's in the bottom of the inning with a lead off home
run off Ni.
In the seventh, Freddy Dolsi replaced Ni.

Sweeney also hit a home run in the sixth off reliever Fu-Te-Ni, who made his
major league debut by striking out Jason Giambi in the fifth.
It was Mark Ellis' first home run of the season in the fifth off Porcello,
however, that doubled the A's two-run lead.

The verdict is surgery. Nate Robertson will undergo surgery today to remove
the "mass" that has been found in his left elbow. There's no word on how long
he'll be out -- or if, indeed, he's done for the season.
