One educated guess is Kidd would have said, "It's part of the business." The savvy veteran knows that. He also knows the Nets aren't going to trade him unless they get something in return, and that trade rumor wasn't going to help the Nets. It had Kidd going to the Lakers in some package for the expiring contracts of Chris Mihm and Aaron McKie, Jordan Farmar, Kwame Brown and picks. Rod Thorn and Ed Stefanski would never do that. They probably would do something if Lamar Odom and Andrew Bynum were involved, but the Lakers wouldn't do that. What are the Nets telling the fans they're already deserting if they trade their franchise for guys who can't play because they're old or can't play because they're hurt? You're basically giving up on this season. Thorn is a competitor and hates — HATES — losing. He won't mortgage this season when the East is wide open. If Vince Carter, Kidd and a healthy Richard Jefferson are playing well the Nets can beat anyone in the East. Sure, they'll miss Nenad Krstic, but they still have enough to win. Now, that doesn't mean Kidd or Carter won't be traded before the Feb. 22 deadline. It's possible, but not likely. Thorn and Stefanski aren't going to give either All-Star away. They have to get something in return or stand pat and play it out, which is a probability at this point. As for Kidd's back, he's questionable for Tuesday's game against the Spurs, who have beaten the Nets seven straight times. Kidd would have to be in rough shape to not play against the Spurs, the team he almost signed with after they beat the Nets in the 2003 NBA Finals. Speaking of the Spurs, Jacque Vaughn returns to New Jersey. He was a professional, good to deal with for the media and he helped the Nets. Vaughn signed with San Antonio after the Nets drafted Marcus Williams, figuring he wouldn't be needed. He's been getting some run lately, averaging 14.3 minutes the last three games. The Nets are looking forward to seeing Jacque. 大意是說如果用Mihm, McKie, Farmar, Brown 換Kidd.
