He has seen Williams block shots like Martin Brodeur at his best. So the veteran guard was asked, does this promising rookie remind him of anyone? Kidd thought for a moment, scratched his chin and then nodded slightly. Five NBA games isn't a lot of evidence, but there are some encouraging signs of late. "I don't know yet, it's too early," Kidd said, then paused and added, "He runs the floor like Dennis Rodman. That's the guy who might come to mind right now." If that same comparison can still be made after 20, 30 or 164 games, then the Nets will have hit the lottery with their non-lottery draft pick (No. 17 overall). Kidd wasn't saying Williams is the same player as Rodman by any means. He just noted that there is a similarity, mostly in the way Williams bolts up and down the court. And Williams, who led Boston College in blocked shots all three years he was there, clearly has a knack for the swat -- just as Rodman had a knack for dominating the boards. Of course, Rodman was a freak. One of the best inch-for-inch rebounders in the history of the game, he was a dogged defender and selfless to a fault, and a vital role player on five NBA championship teams. Williams is a long, long way from that. But anyone who saw the past two Nets games could almost forget about the short-term losses for the long-term gain. While he was out there, Williams was a game-changer with an impact that far outweighed expectations. "Sean has been a very bright light these last two games," coach Lawrence Frank said. Even the coach couldn't have anticipated Williams would have blocked eight shots, grabbed 15 rebounds and scored 20 points on 6-for-11 shooting in those two games.
