The Brooklyn Nets are trying to buy a late 1st round or an early 2nd round draft pick,reports Adam Zagoria of SportsNet New York. Currently without a pick, general manager Sean Marks is doing all he can to reverse the Nets’ poor standing before next month, but the cost of a selection is higher than ever. As reported, the Nets have scheduled workouts or interviews with projected players in that range, including Syracuse’s Malachi Richardson, Kansas’ Cheick Diallo, and Seton Hall’s Isaiah Whitehead. It’s important, however, to note the word choice of Zagoria as the Nets were rumored to be shopping Thaddeus Young at the trade deadline for a 1st rounder of any kind. When Marks took over in February, he quickly indicated that Brook Lopez and Young were building blocks for the franchise, so they’ll likely be safe throughout this process. Last year, the Nets traded Mason Plumlee and Pat Connaughton for Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and then grabbed Chris McCullough with their Hawks-swapped 1st rounder. At this time, the Boston Celtics own the Nets’ unprotected pick and have a 15.6% chance of landing the first overall selection in Tuesday’s Draft Lottery.
