Newcastle have rejected a bid for striker Patrick Kluivert from Spanish side
Osasuna, manager Graeme Souness has revealed.
The offer for the 28-year-old, who has scored just eight goals since joining
in July, arrived in January.
"Osasuna did come in before the transfer window closed, but we did not want
to let him go," said Souness.
"We know what he can do. I'm confident we can get the best from him,
hopefully starting in the Uefa Cup on Thursday."
Souness confirmed that Holland star Kluivert would start Thursday's last-32
Uefa Cup tie against Dutch side Heerenveen at the Abe Lenstra Stadium.
"He will be in our starting line-up and if he needed any incentive to do
well, he should be able to turn it on in front of his own folk."
Souness will be desperate for Kluivert to hit top form, after falling out
with Craig Bellamy and then loaning the Welshman to Celtic.
