Newcastle United's board have requested a meeting with prospective owner
Mike Ashley to discuss his plans for the club.
Billionaire Ashley snapped up Sir John Hall's 41.6 per cent stake in The
Magpies for ￡55million and has tabled a ￡133.1million offer for total control
of the club.
Magpies chairman Freddy Shepherd has stated he is keen to hear Ashley's
plans before agreeing to the sale of his holding and a meeting has been
requested for next week.
A statement released by the club to the Stock Exchange on Friday afternoon
read:
"The board of Newcastle United has met to discuss the SJHL offer and has
requested an early meeting with Mike Ashley and his team and look forward to
discussing the offer and his plans for Newcastle United in more detail.
"It is hoped that this meeting will take place next week."
Hall has backed Ashley to take the club to a new dimension, but it would
appear the club's board are keen to hear his plans for themselves.
Shepherd holds 29.8 per cent of the club's shares and Ashley would need to
purchase this holding if he is to wrestle full control at St James' Park.
